Crime in Ireland??

Question

I will soon be working near Sandyford for about a year,

Is there much crime in Dublin or Sandyford? If so what areas should one stay away from? Where is the lowest crime rates in Dublin? Where would you suggest a single male live in the Dublin metro area?

Sandyford is a grand place to work. Elevated above Dublin city and near Dundrum. It is a terrific posting and you should not worry about crime.

Dublin is no more or less lawless than any city in the world. Look up www.overheardindublin.com for Dublin wit. Everybody talks to everybody in Dublin. You will be in love with the place within four days and cry to be left there for ever

If you want to stay alive stay off the roads in Ireland. It has an appalling road death history, outside the Dublin city limits. Live close to your work. Dundrum is newly built up and has a Tramline to the city [20 minutes]. Sandyford is next or next but one from Dundrum and less than a mile walk

Arseholes like Finnykid are the types you want to avoid in Ireland. Cork is as crime ridden as Dublin. Dublin has got crime,  the same as any other city. But Sandyford has a reasonable low crime rate and is located in a nice area. Use www.daft.ie to look for house rentals.

Although Ireland has historically had a low rate of violent crime, it is increasing, and there have been a limited number of incidents in which foreigners and tourists have been victims of assault, including instances of violence toward those who appear to be members of racial minority groups.  There is a high incidence of petty crime, mostly theft, burglary, and purse snatching in major tourist areas.  Thieves target rental cars and tourists, particularly in the vicinity of tourist attractions, and some purse and bag snatching incidents in these areas have turned violent, especially in Dublin.  Extra caution should be taken to safeguard passports and wallets from pickpockets and bag snatchers.

There has been an increase over the last year in the number of crimes involving credit cards and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).  The use of skimmers to record credit card details has increased, and these recorded details are being sent elsewhere to program false and stolen credit cards.

Apparently there is a shortage of apartments in Sandyford.

Dublin is one place to be or be near if you are looking for nightlife and other young singles. I don't live there, so I can't say more, but I remember hearing that the average age for a person in Dublin was 25 or so, back in 1999, and that there were jobs there, particularly in computers.

As a Dub who has traveled, Dublin is no worse than any other capital city i have been to. Sandyford is a good area and because of the Luas line to it , I would say you can get a good place to stay anywhere on southside of city centre right out to dundrum , once you are in walking distance of the Luas, I personally would recomment ranelagh or Rathgar, bith nice areas, good selection of shops, cafes, nitelife, walkin distance to city and 10-15 mins on luas to sandyford.

I don't know what the crime rate is in Dublin all i know is it is a beautiful place and i hope you enjoy your time there, I always do. No matter where you go these days theres bound to be some crime.

There IS crime in Dublin - and London - and New York - and Amsterdam. In the rain forest trees are murdered. I'd say the crime is no more nor less than any other capital city. But there's a great buzz in Dublin. Its also uniquely situated for a capital city in that you are never far from the coast or the mountains (now, they aren't the Alps, so don't get excited!)

Accomodation is pricey in Dublin so your choice of area to live in will most probably be dictated by your cash.

Don't sign up for any long lease beforehand and when you go to work the people there will tell you the best place to live in relation to your workplace.

Keep your wits about you and you should be ok. Having said that, **** happens and unless you are comig from Walton's Mountain you probably already know that. Enjoy your stay!

The crime rate in Dublin is generally very low in international terms.

A bit of cop-on and you will be fine anywhere in the city.

The enormous prices of houses have meant that there isn't really any 'bad' areas anymore as all areas have seen an influx of all sorts of 'types' of people.

Sandyford is a nice area, a little too far out of town for my liking, but it has good transport links with the LUAS. You will more than likely not be able to afford accommodation on your own, so you could share anywhere along the LUAS line of in the city centre.
