Crime in New York City?

Question

I'm going to head up to New York city and long island for a little vacation this christmas, and I was wondering how violent is that place?

Should I bring my gun? What are my chances of getting robbed or assaulted? I've heard so much about the crime in New York that I am curious.

There is nothing but cops all over Manhattan..on bikes ,foot, cars,and horseback. I go often ,no problems. It's illegal to carry a gun in NYC by the way.

You'll get into far more trouble if you DO carry a gun!!!

NYC is by far the safest big city in the U.S. I've lived here since 1977, and it's amazing how much safer it is today than a decade ago. If you don't do anything you shouldn't, you should be just fine here!

So come, and walk the streets, and go out at night. But don't look for trouble if it isn't looking for you.

Don't bring a gun.

NYC is the safest major city in the US. especially Manhattan. The crime used to be terrible but not anymore.

your chances are slim to none for getting robbed.

don't go to east Brooklyn or other "questionable areas"

don't go looking for trouble and you'll be fine.

my dad had the same idea of NYC but when he came he was amazed at how safe it was.

You need a special permit to carry in any of the 5 Boros - if you're caught with an unlicensed handgun, you'll have bigger problems than getting mugged.

As long as you use common sense and are aware of your surroundings, and don't go looking for trouble or look like a scared rabbit, you should be perfectly fine. Don't go wandering the streets alone drunk out of your skull, but do go partake of anything your heart desires - as long as it's legal.
