  1. Not as dangerous as Harlem or LA...

Do not worry, we park 'tourists' in no crime zones.

    (LOL)

  2. It's probably paris and more specially his suburbs.

  3. You have Paris and all the suburbs but you also have Marseille which is in the south of France...

    :o)

  4. Aulnay-sous-bois, Montfermeil, Clichy-sous-bois , La Courneuve, St-Denis, Bondy, Epinay-sur-Seine, Pierrefitte-Stains.

    Garges-lès-Gonesse, Sarcelles, Argenteuil.

    Corbeil-Essonnes, Evry, Grigny.

    Vitry-sur-Seine, Champigny-sur-Marne.

    Meaux.

    Mantes-la-Jolie, Les Mureaux.

    Nanterre, Gennevilliers.

    Paris 18éme, paris 19éme

  5. It is hard to tell because the crime rate includes all kinds of crimes (from theft, burglary, fraud, traffic violation to physical assault, rape and murder) and the proportion of serious or violent crime differs from city to city. Also, not all crimes are reported and figures change every year. But statistically, if you include everything, it's:

    1 - Marseille

    2 - Nice

    3 - Lille

4 - Paris (3/4 of crimes being thefts)

All these have crime rates between 11.8 and 12 %, which is twice the national average. In terms of being dangerous it doesn't really compare with the most dangerous American cities. Statistically France has at least as much crime as the US (in the last few years the crime rate has even been higher some years) but there are 2 to 3 times fewer rapes and murders.

Now the ranking above is if you mean major, large cities only. If you include medium-sized cities of 50,000 people or more, several cities north of Paris such as Saint-Ouen and Saint-Denis have a much higher crime rate with 15 -15.3 %. Those I would definitely consider dangerous, at least some parts. Cannes on the French Riviera also ranks very poorly because of high theft and fraud rates but I wouldn't say it's dangerous to be out in the street in Cannes.

(And my home town is the safest city in France, yeah!!!)

  6. city centres are nowhere really dangerous.

Suburbs may be,but no tourist will go there as there is hardly anything interesting.

  7. Only on "big" cities as Paris, Marseille, Lyon or Lille, at night, you can maybe be hurted by some criminal. But i agree with Pierric : the suburbs (Paris, Lille...) are really hot, but the town-centers are relatively clean. At night, I don't like to walk alone in Paris or Lille.
