Anybody have any experience at all with a visa application that shows one arrest in the U.S. for driving with no insurance and no license one time? Paid a fine and had 6 months probation, cleared up last year.

  1. What type of visa are you going for???  Canada will not admit anyone with a serious criminal background.  Yours is not a felony so I don't think you will have a problem.  I had a reckless driving and when I applied for permanent residence I was denied.  Mine wasn't a felony either but the official reviewing my application viewed it as a criminal offense.  This took some straightening out before I was finally granted an appeal and permanent residence status.

Laws in Canada are worded different and so if your crime is equated to a serious offense in Canada it could be troublesome.  You have to go about setting the record straight for yourself.

If you are just trying to visit Canada I don't see it being a problem.  Your probation is served and your fines are paid.

It really just depends on what questions they ask and how you answer them.  If it were a felony----then no way.

    These websites will help.

When you fill out your application you must disclose all arrests

and court cases from your past.  If you are applying for permanent residence you will also have to supply background checks so don't lie about your record.  They will find ot eventually.  You will probably be asked to supply actual court documentation of the case and receipts to show that all fines were paid.
