I have a friend, David, who had committed a felony (distribution of ectasy) in the U.S. and went to prison for 2.5 years. He's a Mexican Citizen so he recently settled back in Mexico. Now he wants to go to China. He is Chinese decent. No tattoos or weird hair cuts.

Would his criminal record lead to a Chinese visa rejection?

  1. Since he was born in China (Chinese origin, not Chinese descent) and is ethnically Chinese, if he did not revoke his Chinese citizenship when he became a naturalized Mexican citizen, and he still has his Chinese passport, as a Chinese citizen, he will be allowed to return to China.  If his Chinese citizenship is revoked, there is no way he can get a Chinese visa with a criminal record.
