Criminals just stick them all on a remote island and be done with it! ....Yeah??

Wat do you think of this idea?Were only talking hardened criminals like murderers rapists etc Would it work? I know Australia actually started out this way but what if it was done properly this time? An electric fence all the way round (might cost a bit but not anywhere near the amount it costs to keep these animals in our prisons) It could be monitored to avoid escape, although if they tried to escape there would hopefully be a very long swim, shark attacks etc. I just think its a good idea, they can have there only little community and if they want to murder each other, shoot each other, form gangs etc then they can all get along with it!

You know they made a sci-fi movie about exactly this, right?

I take issue, though, with the permanence.  No doubt we'd be better off if some individuals were forever removed from society, but our justice system is severely flawed at best.

We have many, many innocent people who have been either killed or given last-minute reprieves from death row.

Worse, we don't have a truly effective system of differential treatment of different crimes.

Is the guy caught smoking pot in his basement as deserving of Island Imprisonment as the guy who regularly rapes his daughter?

And how do you determine who is and who isn't capable of rehabilitation?  We know that some crimes have a recidivism (re-committing a crime) of 90%, whereas others have very low recidivism rates.  

There really is no easy answer.

Other than the fact that it's NEVER WORKED BEFORE, great idea! No, wait, an idea that has never worked isn't much of an idea. Crime is a complex deep rooted social problem, not simply a matter of locking up all the "bad guys." One of the main problems with this solution is that governments who use it inevitably broaden their description of bad guy to political prisoners or worse. I mean, you are suggesting building a gulag.

I do agree that more should be done to identify violent criminals and keep them out of circulation, but one must remember that the justice system is largely about protecting rich people's wealth, promoting politician's careers,  and keeping the prison building and police lobbies happy than actually making society a safer place.

The world is a complicated place, simple solutions don't work to solve complex problems, and they often make them worse.

I think they all should be in corporate for profit prisons!  you will not have to worry anymore about em, just pay your jail taxes or we let them go.....hahahaha now go shopping!
