The veteran http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 defender was thoroughly criticised by Jean-Michel Aulas a few weeks back but has said that he is still motivated to do well next season
At the age of 35 and in the final year of his contract, Brazilian defender, Cris’ status at Olympique Lyonnais has changed. With the player reaching the twilight of his career, a move away from the club has always been discussed. No more is the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858
international an integral part of the starting XI.
Forced to reduce the burden on the payroll, the Rhone giants would not mind seeing the back of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cris-c9486. However, despite a complicated preseason in which he was constantly derided by clubs president, Jean-Michel Aulas, the former Lyon captain does not intend
to give up.
While talking to L’Equipe, Cris said that he did receive a lot of proposals from Brazil but did not find them interesting at all. Cris says that he has told coach Remi Garde that he wants to continue playing for the club.
“I had proposals in Brazil, but they were not at all interesting. I told the coach that I wanted to stay and that we continue to work together. I want to be part of the new philosophy of the club,” said Cris.
Determined to prove that he can still be an important player for the seven-time Ligue 1 champions, Cris has not verbally responded to the unjustified attacks of Aulas and has shown a lot of respect for the club.
Aulas says that he will not fight with the president because Aulas knows what he has done for the club since he came here. Cris is willing to forget what Aulas said and move on because he has a lot of respect for the club.
“The president wanted to say certain things, and he said them. You cannot fight against the president. He knows what I did for the club since I arrived. I always had great respect for the OL institution. I still love the club that gave me so much. Even if
I’m no longer regarded as a major player, I feel I can prove otherwise.”
Cris has faced some harsh criticism from Aulas and to see the player respond so professionally clearly shows that Lyon are lucky to have such a loyal player among their ranks.
