Crista Cullen leads England to 2-0 victory over Germany in EuroHockey Nations Championship, Germany
The English Women recorded an impressive victory over the German outfits by 2-0 in their second Pool B match of the GANT EuroHockey Nations Championship (women), played at the Warsteiner Hockey Park in Monchengladbach, Germany on Sunday, August 21.
The match was played in a fighting environment where both teams put some really hard fight but at the end the English held their nerves and scored an impressive but a very hard fought victory. Both the teams looked desperate to score in the entire match
but however, the English remained the dominant partner throughout the match by scoring a solitary goal in each of the halves while the Germans remained scoreless.
“It is a very thorough performance. Yesterday we miss-fired, today was disciplined and an astute game. Corner conversions were key and our execution of the game plan was impressive,” Danny Kerry, the head coach of the English women’s hockey side, shared
his views after the match.
The first half started evenly balanced between the teams as both of them had created early chances in the match but unluckily failed to make any impression until the 18th minute when the English found the German net with Crista Cullen scoring
on a penalty corner. The remaining time of the first half remained goalless in spite of some great moves by the opponents. The Germans also showed some desperate efforts but they did not work for them in the first part of the game, in fact in the entire match.
The second half also depicts the same story but the English doubled their lead just five minutes into the second half unlike the first one where they had to wait for half of the time. The scorer was again Crista Cullen who scored once again on a penalty
corner in the 40th minute and made it 2-0 for England. The Germans ended without scoring a single goal in the match which concluded at 2-0 to England.
"I'm just the lucky person who takes penalty corners. It's great that they're going in for me and I hope that luck continues. Germany against England is always a really hard game to play in. They are always the team to beat - it's notorious across all sports.
But Germany will be back, as they always are,” Crista Cullen the star performer for England added to her views about their encounter against Germany.
The English squad put in a brilliant effort as they managed to contain the Germans’ offence from scoring throughout the match. The Germans will be looking to improve their performance before their next match-up in the exciting tournament. In the end, the
English took a decent 2-0 victory over Germany.
