The Romanian footballer’s agent insists that the Nerazzurri are not the only option for his client; reveals that he will assess his choices at the end of the season.
Defender Cristian Chivu has sent a clear message to Inter Milan that he is not anxious to extend his contract with the club.
The former AS Roma star is in the last year of his contract at San Siro, and will be a free agent at the end of the 2011/12 campaign. The agent of the defender has revealed that Inter have not offered his client a new contract,
and the Romanian international is also not so keen on extending his stay at the club.
Chivu is heavily linked with a summer transfer to Napoli, but the agent has labelled the rumours as false and absurd.
While talking to the press, Victor Becali, said:
“We haven’t spoken to Inter yet and no meeting is planned. I think we will meet up at the end of this month though. Are we optimistic about an extension? There is no need to feel optimistic, we’re not desperate.
“If there is an opportunity to stay at Inter then that will be good, otherwise we’ll assess other options. To be honest, I don’t know where certain rumours come from. I’ve received no phone call from Napoli. We have spoken to nobody!”
The chances of being offered a new contract depends heavily on the former Ajax star’s form for the remainder of the season. If everything fails, Chivu could be seen moving away from the club on a Bosman transfer next season.
The 31-year-old boasts a prestigious career and has a lot of experience under his belt. The veteran has played more than 100 matches each for Ajax, Roma and the Nerazzurri.
Chivu joined Inter Milan from AS Roma in 2007, and the versatile defender has gone onto make 145 appearances for the former Italian Champions. The Romanian star has struggled with injuries and form in the ongoing campaign, having
managed only 14 appearances so far.
