Cristian Mijares to face former WBO world champion Cruz Carbajal – Boxing news
Cristian Mijares, former WBC and IBF former world champion, is scheduled to fight Cruz ‘Chucho’ Carbajal of Mexico on April 14 in Morelia, Michoacan.
Both fighters will enter the ring to fight for the vacant WBC super bantamweight International title. The bout was initially set between Mijares and Cristian but now the latter has been replaced with Carbajal.
Carbajal, former WBO world champion, has this opportunity to prove his mettle to the world. On the other hand, Mijares is looking forward to fight Toshiaki Nishioka. Mijares second option to play with is Anselmo ‘Chemito’ Moreno who is the WBA bantamweight
super champion.
However, for now, Mijares, with 44 victories, 6 losses and 2 ties in his portfolio, will be facing Carbajal, who has 32 victories, 18 losses and 2 ties in his portfolio. Mijares has grabbed 20 of his victories through knockouts while Carbajal has 26 knockouts
in his bag.
Cruz Carbajal made his debut in 1992 and won first 14 fights he went for out of 17. However, by the mid of his career, he lost 6 fights. Samson Dutch, Bob Gym, Johnny Bredahl, Nestor Garza and Lehlohonolo Ledwaba were some of his competitors who defeated
him through decisions and knockouts. He grabbed the WBO bantamweight title in March 2002, from Mauricio Martinez. Later on, he was able to defend his title against Danny Romero and Gerardo Espinzo. Unfortunately, his third title defence was not successful
and he lost to Ratanachai Sor Vorapin.
Mijares made his debut in 2006 and knocked out Adalberto Davila in just 6 rounds to earn the Mexican super-flyweight title. This was Mijares’ first ever professional bout to become an emerging boxing superstar. Mijares went on to win the vacant WBC world
interim title by defeating Katsushige Kawashima in 2006.
Mijares then went onto win WBC super flyweight championship by defeating the WBA champion in 2008.
As of now, both the fighters are eagerly looking forward to set their stones in the industry. Since both of them are great fighters, it cannot be said for sure as to who has higher probability of winning the fight.
