http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-c9491 Rodriguez is set to sign for Gremio after finding his chances limited at Estadio do Dragao.
Uruguayan International Cristian Rodriguez is allegedly close to penning a deal with the Brazilian side, after failing to nail down a first team berth at Porto.
The 26-year-old is widely known for his attacking talent but was unable to cement a place under http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitor-c36281 Pereira despite making 32 appearances in the quadruple winning campaign.
Rodriguez, who plys his trade on the wing, was one of his country’s most talented players and made the coveted switch to Europe with Paris Saint-Germain. Following his stint at the Parc des Princes, he was hired by Benfica on a season long-loan before being
snapped up by their arch-rivals, FC Porto.
At the Dragao, Rodriguez was quick to settle in and formed a strong partnership alongside fellow South Americans Lisandro Lopez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hulk-c16436. He continued his good form into the 2010/2011 term and was an integral part of Andre Villas-Boas’ plans as the side
swept a quadruple of trophies.
However with the departure of Villas-Boas, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peñarol-c40192 man has struggled to make the starting line-up, with his position being usurped by fellow youngster James Rodriguez.
Although he has featured sporadically for the Dragons, the player seems to be fed-up with his fallen status at the helm and has reportedly engineered a move to Gremio, who are close to signing him on a permanent deal.
Olímpico Monumental officials have confirmed that the transfer is very much in the pipeline and that it should be completed shortly.
The Tricolour have not tasted much success in recent years despite boasting a decent squad but with the addition of Rodriguez, they should have a good chance of having a crack at the league title.
More importantly, though, for the player it means that he will no longer have to play second-fiddle to the likes of James Rodriguez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Silvestre-Varela-c33505 and will be able to get a string of games under his belt.
His International career with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oscar-c28720 Tabarez, if he is playing week-in, week-out and scoring goals in the process, something which he should be able to achieve
while at Gremio.
