Amidst the Scommessopoli allegations of match fixing, sporting fraud and failure to notify about betting to notable authorities; Stellini of Juventus has resigned.
Whereas Antonio Conte and Angelo Alessio are holding out to go to a full trial after their plea bargains were rejected by the FIGC; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-Stellini-c9602 issued a statement to the President of the Bianconeri outfit, which included his resignation as well.
The former Como player has been an integral part of the set up of Coach Conte, and was in the technical staff of Antonio Conte during his time at AC Siena in 2010-11. The allegations of the Scommessopoli incident are from that time as well; the betting charges
have seen allegations mounted against several players and managers including the Siena coaching staff. The allegations against the former Robur staff involved the failure to notify concerned football authorities about matches that were fixed.
Whereas Alessio and Conte have been charged with failure to notify the relevant authorities about matches they knew to be fixed, Stellini faced the more serious charge of indulging in sporting fraud during his time at Siena.
Conte and Alessio deny the charges and have regularly claimed their innocence; however, Stellini has accepted a plea bargain of two years and six months. The letter addressed to the President was later published online on the club’s official website.
He went ahead and stated his disappointment in the distress he had caused to his team and colleagues, and went on to remark that he had to be professional and do the right thing:
“Whatever the evolution of the legal situation I am in, I feel it is only right to show a professional attitude and release this weight from Juventus which fell on to the club’s shoulders due to my time elsewhere in my career.”
He went on to state that the position he finds himself is his own doing and does not involve others, and stated:
“I think it is right to dedicate all my time and efforts to clearing my position in these matters, which are exclusively about me and not those I simply shared a locker room with. I therefore tend my irrevocable resignation as technical assistant at Juventus.”
Conte and Alessio continue to deny their involvement in the scandal.
