The addition of Zapata has been questioned by many, including the legendary Cesare Maldini; however, the defender states that he would be no slouch next season.
The mass exodus and depletion in personnel at Milan meant that the Rossoneri squad were in the market for several players as well. In total there have been 12 players who have left the club this season, some have been sold, others have been let go. The players
to have been let go have been legends at the club; however they have been drawing a lot of salary and the Rossoneri board felt that the money could be better utilised elsewhere.
There was an urgent need of bringing players in defence; as there was depletion in quality and quantity in the Rossoneri ranks in the defence department. They laid off http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Silva-c34903 was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee
of 42 million Euros.
This has added great deal of criticism to the Rossoneri board, as they have been unable to sign a top quality signing to cover the void of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-c34888 Silva. They have bought Francesco Acerbi from Chievo, but his inexperience at the top level has not quelled
any fears that the Diavolo faithful have had.
They have gone on to sign the former Udinese defender, Zapata, from the relegated Spanish club, Villarreal.
Zapata was talking to the press and during his conference he went on to state that playing under the pressure of being Silva’s replacement does not bother him. He further went on to remark that he is here to prove his worth to the club.
He was quoted to have said:
“Being Thiago Silva’s ‘heir’ does not weigh on me. I’m not remotely frightened of the pressure that comes with that. I’m here to prove I am worthy of Milan.”
The Colombian national mentioned that he was under no disillusion that the club had lost two big players in the shape of Silva and Nesta, but he vowed to prove his worth to the side and hoped to  woe the Rossoneri faithful with his performances.
