The versatile defender spent one year on the books of the Yellow Submarine but abandons El Madrigal to link-up with the Serie A runners-up for a yearlong adventure in familiar surroundings.
Colombian international, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-c9491 Zapata, became the latest player to leave relegated Villarreal for pastures new. The former Udinese player joins AC Milan on a loan deal in order to rejuvenate his career after a unimpressive 2011/12 Spanish top flight campaign
in the Yellow Submarine’s colours.
The defender completed a medical at the San Siro to secure his move away from his nightmare at El Madrigal. Zapata has forced a contractual clause in the contract to make the deal permanent at the end of the 2012/13 season.
Addition of Zapata to AC Milan’s roster will mean the club will not go for the signature of Edin Dzeko and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tevez, as the Colombian occupies the last non-EU spot in the dressing room after completing his proposed move.
Zapata follows http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Borja-Valero-c7889 and Gonzalo Rodriguez in Serie A, who switched El Madrigal for pastures new after failing to keep the club a float in La Liga in the penultimate campaign.
On the other hand, after losing out on one of their prized possession, Villarreal have swiftly moved in the transfer window to replenish their defensive ranks. The Valencian club joined free agent, Olof Mellberg, on a one year contract to add depth to their
much maligned squad.
Website of the Yellow Submarine read that they have acquired the services of the Swedish star. It continued that Mellberg completed his medical at the Jaime I de Castellon and has agreed to join the relegated outfit on a yearlong contract.
"The defender will train with the team tomorrow, following which he will be presented to the press at the Ermita de la Mare de Deu de Gracia."
The former Juventus start is a breath of fresh air for the Yellow Submarine who have recorded the loss of Cristian Zapata and Gonzalo Rodriguez in quick succession. Mellberg’s versatility and experience in the top European leagues will aid the development
of youngsters coming through the youth academy, who have shined for the reserve side in the recent season.
