Cristiano Ronaldo: Wayne Rooney will find his form again
Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo has said his former teammate Wayne Rooney will see his luck change for Manchester United this season.
Rooney signed a five-year deal with United on Friday, 22 October, after manager Sir Alex Ferguson said the striker wanted to leave Old Trafford.
Ferguson's comments came after a poor start to the season by Rooney, who has scored only one goal in seven appearances this season and is currently recovering from an ankle injury.
"Wayne has not started this season very well but he is still a fantastic player and I know that very soon he will be back to show that," Ronaldo told The Sun. The 25-year-old partnered Rooney at United from 2004 until his departure last summer.
"He has made his decision to stay with United and sign a new contract and we must all respect that. It's not my position to give him advice on that. But I know that things can change very quickly indeed."
Fine line between success and failure
Ronaldo scored only one goal in the Real's first five games in the league this season, but has added another six to his tally in the team's last three fixtures.
Against Racing Santander on 23 October, the Portuguese knocked four goals past goalkeeper Antonio Martinez.
"I didn't start this season very well, either," Ronaldo explained. "But it is difficult to play at the highest level all the time. I just stayed calm, worked hard and did my job for the team and suddenly I scored a few goals and everything changed. Football
is like that. Sometimes we play bad and then you score a goal and everyone thinks differently about you. That will happen for Wayne."
On Friday, 29 October, Ferguson said Rooney's ankle problem is likely to keep him out of action for over three weeks.
