Cristiano Ronaldo comes to the defence of Wayne Rooney
Cristiano Ronaldo the former teammate of Wayne Rooney at Manchester United has said that Wayne is still the same great player, and he would once again be back to his best for Manchester United.
Ronaldo who left Manchester United in 2009 said that Rooney will soon be back in the same form for his club and country that had made pundits dub him as one of the best in the world.
While talking to a newspaper Ronaldo said that Wayne is a player born once in a generation, and it is just a matter of time he gets back his touch. The Real Madrid winger added that there is undue criticism being handed to Rooney for his form, and a player
like him does not need to prove himself time and again. The Portuguese captain went on to say that it was just last season when Wayne was almost carrying the team on his own two shoulders, so there should be no finger pointed to him if he is going through
a tough period.
Madrid’s number ‘7’ said that over the years that he played with Wayne Rooney both of them almost grew together as player, but he always found him to be more subtle and mature for his age. Ronaldo said that he learned a lot from Rooney, and has no doubts
that he is one of the best in the world. Former Manchester United right winger said that it is normal for every player to have a bad patch, the start of this season has not been ideal for Wayne but he is only human and in due time he will come around. Ronaldo
added that root to his problems has been his injury that he suffered last season, and at times a player does need some time to get back to his best following an injury like that.
"Wayne has not started this season very well but he is still a fantastic player and I know that very soon he will be back to show that,"
"He has made his decision to stay with United and sign a new contract and we must all respect that. It's not my position to give him advice on that. But I know that things can change very quickly indeed." Ronaldo told the media.
It has been almost 7 months since Wayne scored a goal, while his former team mate Cristiano Ronaldo has been in supreme form this season with 9 goals in last 4 matches. Ronaldo said that the season for him also did not start very well, but he did not panic
and neither did his team and now he is almost back to his best.
He added that he was given immense backing and support from his team and especially from his manager. Ronaldo who joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon said that it is integral that the fans and the team stand behind Wayne and he has no doubts that
he would once again be scoring goals for Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo made a record move to Real Madrid in 2009 for 80 million pounds, but even after leaving United he shares a special relationship with United and his former manager. He said that Sir Alex is still a good friend and mentor to him. Recently
there has been some discussion over the future of Sir Alex Ferguson. Ronaldo said that whoever replaces him would have huge shoes to fill as there can never be another Sir Alex, and added that he hopes that it is not his manager Jose Mourinho as he is enjoying
his time with the “Special One” and would not want to part company with his compatriot.
