Cristiano Ronaldo expects friendly atmosphere, top-notch football in Portugal-Spain friendly

Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo says that he expects there to be 'a beautiful atmosphere' on display when his side face Spain in an international friendly on Wednesday 17 November.

The Real Madrid star is the captain of his national team, which is renowned for its stylish brand of football. Spain, meanwhile, have made the best possible use of their 'tiki-taka' passing style in recent
years, winning the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Both sides' entertaining approach to the game should make for a game which is easy on the eye.

While Ronaldo is looking forward to the clash in a footballing sense, he is also keen for revenge after Spain dumped Portugal out of the World Cup in South Africa at the first knockout stage on their way
to winning the tournament, but refuses to let that defeat weigh him down.

In an interview with Portuguese television channel TVE, he said that: “Spain are the current world champions and we are extremely excited about the encounter. We will face them in front of our own fans and
I’m sure the stadium will be packed and the atmosphere will be beautiful.

"I don’t think our loss to Spain in South Africa is a thorn on our side. In football you win and lose. We will go out and enjoy the match against the best team in the world."

Since making his international debut against Kazahkstan in 2003, Ronaldo has become a vital player for the Portugal national side. He helped them to reach the final of the UEFA 2004 European Football Championship,
held in his homeland, and helped his national team to finish in fourth place at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

When Carlos Queiroz was appointed as head coach in July 2008, he named Ronaldo as the captain of the side, a role which the 25-year-old has relished. In total, he has made 78 appearances and has scored 25
goals for Portugal.
