Cristiano Ronaldo not obsessed with the record: Football News
Real Madrid’s Portuguese winger, Cristiano Ronaldo insisted that he is not obsessed with the prospect of rewriting La Liga's history books by claiming the record of scoring the most number of goals in the ongoing season.
After scoring four goals in the game against Sevilla and netting three last night against Getafe, Ronaldo jumped over Messi to take his tally in La Liga to 36.
Ronaldo is now five goals clear of Messi in the league and has two games to surpass the record tally of 38 goals set by Atletico Madrid’s Telmo Zarra in 1950-51 and levelled by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-c16384 Sanchez of Real Madrid in 1989-90.
Messi, who scored 53 goals in the season and netted 31 in the league, has of a chance of breaking this record. He has three games left to play as opposed to Ronaldo’s two to achieve the feat.
Both the players are the leading contenders to lift the 'Pichichi' trophy for the league; awarded every year to the player who has the highest tally of goals in the league.
However, the Portuguese striker has said that his focus is not beating the record as he is chasing a coveted landmark.
Ronaldo scored 49 goals in all competitions this season, making him the leading scorer for the Los Blancos in a single season, surpassing the legendary Ferenc Puskas’ tally of 47 goals in the 1959-60 season.
"I'm fighting to reach a very important mark, but I'm not obsessed about doing it. I'm not thinking a lot about that (the records), I prefer to do my thing to help the team to win and if I beat the records then that would be good, but if I don't to be honest I don't care about that. I just want to play to enjoy it and keep well myself." said Ronaldo speaking after his side’s 4-0 win over Getafe last night.
"I scored three goals and I'm very proud of that, but the most important thing is that we win. We want to finish the league well and it's always important to win. It's true that on occasions my team-mates have looked to try and help me score, but the team comes above the individual." added the Real Madrid star.
Aitor Karanka, who again spoke in place of Jose Mourinho to the press, said that the tally of Ronaldo’s goals is very impressive, but the striker is capable of much more. The Real Madrid assistant coach added that it is the team effort that Ronaldo has been able to score so many goals and he owes it to the team.
