Cristiano Ronaldo tipped to find net soon
Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo has struggled to hit the back of the net so far this season, but he should end his scoring drought soon.
The Portuguese superstar’s teammate Xabi Alonso has complete faith that Ronaldo will soon rediscover the famed scoring touch that saw him score 42 goals in one season at Manchester United, and 33 in 35 games for the Spanish giants in the last campaign.
Ronaldo had 11 attempts on goal during Madrid’s 2-0 win over Ajax in their opening UEFA Champions League group stage match last night and, while he looked to be frustrated with his inability to score as the game wore on, the Spaniard insisted that Ronaldo
will break his scoring luck sooner rather than later.
At a press conference today, Alonso said that, “As always he would have liked to score, and there were many chances for many players. There will be opportunities in the future and we will make sure we find the net. He should not be anxious, because strikers
often score in spurts. There will always be chances, because often we are going to be the best team in attack. I am sure that he will soon score.”
Madrid legend Emilio Butragueno also said that the attacker should not worry, and that goals will soon flow for the former FIFA World Player of the Year.
Butragueno told reporters today that:, “Cristiano had several attempts on goal (last night), and as a striker all you can ask is to be in the position to score. For whatever reason, he did not score, but this is football. It is okay, his quality will show
very soon. He is a winner, a man who delivers the best, and of course the individual wants to score goals to help the team, but it should not concern him.”
