Cristie Kerr: Hard work finally pays off
When American Cristie Kerr ended her months-long victory drought at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational this month, no one had been surprised as the star golfer was convinced that she would cap
off the season in winning style.
Kerr was not among the star performers when the 2012 LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) season started, as she had been reeling under a protracted performance slump.
But the latest victory has opened the way for her to look forward to her pro career with more vigour and passion.
The American star had to remain winless for months after she grabbed her second major title at the LPGA Championship in June  2010, but the 35-year-old golfer did not give up despite being
much older than most of her competitors, and once again relished an LPGA success in Mexico.
Overall, Kerr has been one of the most dominating players on the Tour. Her stature and capabilities are reminiscent of big names like Tiger Woods in men’s golf and Beth Daniel who won the
Rolex Player of the Year for in 1994.
With most of the veterans and past winners going behind scene these days and young guns taking over the lineup, it has become crucial for experienced names like Kerr to reshape their game
and capitalise on what they have learned through the years.
In the later stages of the 2012 season, fans finally had the chance to see a gradual but noticeable improvement in kerr’s putting and swing. Her grip appears to have become more solid lately,
helping her manoeuvre the ball on the greens.
The LPGA titan expressed her confidence in her game during her recent interview to the Tour, saying it has been a long journey, but her efforts have reaped good results.
“It's really nice, it's really nice, you know, to feel like all the hard work has paid off and, you know, that I came from behind to win, too, even though I made a few bogeys coming down the
stretch,” said Kerr who has won a total of 15 LPGA titles since she joined the Tour back in 1997.
Although she could have earned more victories in her long pro career, her overall performance has been better than average, earning her some prestigious accolades along the way.
