Cristie Kerr all set for CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012
American Cristie Kerr, who won the 2006 CN Canadian Women’s Open in an amazing style, will be gracing the 2012 edition of the tournament next month.
The LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event is set to start from August 20-26 at The Vancouver Golf Club, with the presence of most of the big names in women’s golf.
Kerr, who has been trying to win a professional tournament for months, recorded her last victory at the LPGA Championship in June 2010.
According to the tournament officials, who appeared to be pretty optimistic about the coming battle at Vancouver, the field of this year’s event will be far stronger than the previous year, as most of the prominent LPGA contenders have confirmed their commitment for the match.
So far, the American star has performed well on the Tour and is determined to atone for the lapses she made in the past events.
American Brittany Lincicome, who is the defending champion of the tournament, is all set to put her skills to the test once again. Lincicome has proved her worth lately on the LPGA Tour by displaying an electrifying performance in some of the events she participated in recently.
Officials told that South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who grabbed the headlines after clinching her first major title at the US Women’s Open 2012, will likely be in discussions.
When it comes to experience, Kerr is far stronger than most of the contenders in the roster. Having grabbed 14 LPGA wins so far in her career, the American prodigy is among the hot favourite contenders for the title.
Currently ranked 9th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, the 34-year-old Kerr is all set to move ahead. However, analysts said that the once-feared golfer may find it a bit difficult to face rising stars like Choi of South Korea and Stacy Lewis.
Since American players are losing their ground in terms of world rankings, it has become crucial for the world number nine to dispel concerns about the slumping performance of all the national players.
Repeating the 2006 performance may not be easy for Kerr when tees off at The Vancouver Golf Club next month, but a solid score cannot be ruled out.
