Cristie Kerr attributes success to caddie help
American Cristie Kerr, who has ended her winning drought after winning the 2012 Lorena Ochoa Invitational this month, has said that getting her husband back on her bag has revived her game.
Kerr had long been troubled about her lacklustre stint for months before she finally let her fans see her aggressive side at Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012, in Mexico, this month. She posted
an overall 272 to grab a one-shot victory against American Angela Stanford, who was one of the past winners taking part in the tournament.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the tournament in Mexico, Kerr answered a range of questions regarding her renewed form and future plans. However, when it came to inspiration that has kept
her going during this time, she pointed out that since she took her husband on her bag, her performance has started improved.
Kerr said that her husband has helped her fix persistent flaws in her game, especially short game.
“I’m really happy about that. And he’s been really encouraging, you know, my solid rock. Like never letting me doubt myself, always helping me to believe in myself and to move forward when
things aren’t going well, this is great for us,” said the 35-year-old who has notched up 15 LPGA titles so far and is seeking to further boost her position in the coming events next season.
Kerr went on to say that she decided to take her husband back as a caddie in Atlantic City earlier this year.
The LPGA titan said that she has been in touch with several bagmen, but nothing has been as refreshing as working with her husband on the course.
She pointed out that during the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, she felt a bit under pressure on several occasions, but quickly regained composure after following his advice.
“Encouraging me to stay patient out there, not letting me get to down on myself. You know, things could have gone really wrong after I missed that putt on thirteen but he said forget about
it,” she said of the final round of Lorena Ochoa Invitational.
When it comes to major championships, Kerr stands taller than most of her rivals. She racked up her first major title at the US Women’s Open in 2007. She proved her mettle once again when
she won another major title at the LPGA Championship in June 2010.
Thanks to the fresh victory, the golfing sensation has improved her world rankings, but has to go a long before she can think of grabbing the top spot.
Although one of the few veterans on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) who boast stunning profiles, the American star still has plenty of golf in her, and she is trying to capitalise
on that experience.
