Cristie Kerr eager to end her winning drought at Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012
American Cristie Kerr looks set to do her best at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, scheduled to be held from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, as she said that she desperately seeks to record a win after a long victory drought.
The tournament at Waterloo is going to feature a 144-player roster that will include most of the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
Some of the key players, who have confirmed their commitment to the Manulife LPGA Classic, include Stacy Lewis, Suzann Pettersen, American Paula Creamer, Ai Miyazato of Japan, Michelle Wie from the United States, Lorie Kane of Canada, Natalie Gulbis and
Spanish Azahara Munoz.
Tournament officials said that the 144-palyer field has not been completed yet, but the rest of the players are expected to confirm their participation sooner than expected.
They said that the tournament is likely to stage an interesting battle among top-flight players, which will help them attract a massive crowd.
Kerr is being considered one of the favourite contenders for the $1.3 million tournament, as she boasts a solid profile. Having grabbed 20 professional titles so far, Kerr is all set to take on rivals at Waterloo.
Another feat that helps the American star eclipse the popularity of most of the LPGA players, is winning two major tournaments in her career.
She won the US Women’s Open in the 2007 season, her first major triumph. She kept on performing well and added another major title to her profile when she carved out a 12-stroke victory in the LPGA Championship in 2010.
The 34-year-old American participated in the 2012 LPGA Championship, held at Locust Hill Country Club, New York, last week. She could not perform better than expectations, as she finished tied for the 12th position on the leaderboard.
Speaking to the media about her worse-than-expected performance at New York, Kerr said that she knew she could not play according to her plans and finished poorly.
“I didn't play that great on the back either. I seemed to hit pretty good tee shots that would end up like a foot in the rough in some gnarly lies. I just managed really well,” Kerr said.
“I didn't play a very good hole on the 13th at all and I managed to get out of there with a bogey which was the best I was going to do”.
