Cristie Kerr eager to win her third major title at Kohler
American Cristie Kerr, who won the US Women’s Open in 2007, has vowed to do her best in this year’s edition too.
The prestigious tournament is going to be played from July 5-8, Kohler, with the participation of defending champion So Yeon Ryu and current world number one Yani Tseng.
Kerr has been struggling to win a professional event since her victory at the 2010 LPGA Championship, but this week’s battle at Kohler can provide her with plenty of opportunities to end her winning drought.
The American star has racked up two major titles so far — something analysts said is keeping her motivated.
Kerr spoke to the media about what she is going to do at Kohler this week. She said that major tournaments are always different, as players usually make all-out efforts to record a win.
The major champion said that the US Women’s Open is important for most of the players, which is why recording a win here demands plenty of hard work and resilience.
“I think it really ‑‑ this event is different because it demands everything of every aspect of your game. You need to plan out there. You need to say if the pin is on the right side, I need to hit it here. I can't miss it over here,” Kerr said.
She went on to say that she has been able to fix most of the lapses in her swing, and is also working on her putting. Speaking of the course, Blackwolf Run, Kerr said that she has been here for the last three days, practising swing and putting.
“You know, as soon as I stepped on the first tee on Sunday for my practice round, I started to remember the golf course. I thought that I did remember it, but as I have played it over the last three days, a lot of things have been coming back to me,” the
34-year-old American said.
She was keen to point out that due to vast experience at the Blackwolf Run, she is feeling confident and will try to avoid making the same mistakes again.
Although the golfing sensation has never won any event on the course, she certainly has what it takes to trouble rivals.
