Cristie Kerr eyes second straight LPGA title
American Cristie Kerr, who won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012 in resounding fashion last week, is now going to put her skills to the test at the season-ending CME Group Titleholders 2012.
The CME Group Titleholders 2012 is going to be staged from November 15-18, at The TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida, with Kerr eager to notch up her second straight Ladies Professional Golf
Association (LPGA) title.
Kerr displayed a stellar performance at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012, keeping her rivals at bay right from the start. But the upcoming event in Florida will be much more crucial for
the American star as every player is trying to finish off the season with on a positive note.
Kerr got off to a fiery start and kept boosting her score on the back of birdies. She got into an intense battle in the last round against fellow American Angela Stanford who had grabbed an
early lead after she shot a 66 in the opening round.
However, Kerr dominated her nearest rival and clinched a one-stroke victory to end her protracted winless stint.
Commentators said that in order to do the same in the coming events, the LPGA giant will have to stick to her work ethic.
She herself seemed fazed after she hoisted the title in Mexico last Sunday, as she said that she never thought that she was going to end her lacklustre stint this year.
“I was nervous. I haven’t been in this position to win in a while. You know, to even have one putt to win, or two putts to win, I wasn’t nervous for messing up but it was hard to control the
amount of adrenaline that was in my system,” said Kerr who has racked up a total of 15 LPGA titles so far in her professional career and is keen to win more accolades.
She went on to say that her putting has improved quite lot in the recent past, which in turn has helped her short game.
“So I just tried to take some breaths and calm myself down and I still can’t believe how hard I hit that first putt. I gave the fans and myself a heart attack, but you know what I stayed in
there mentally until the end you know”.
