Cristie Kerr eyes third title at Kingsmill Championship
American Cristie Kerr, who finished tied for the 41st position at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, has slipped to the 10th spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Kerr has been a star performer on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) for years, but she has been struggling to get back to her winning form since her last triumph at the LPGA Championship in June 2010.
The world rankings have seen some big shifts lately, with several younger players having grabbed most of the positions in top 50. Players like Kerr are finding it a little hard to stay firm at their positions, but hope has not faded yet as the American star has repeatedly vowed to start winning again.
Kerr displayed a stunning performance at the Safeway Classic 2012, held about two weeks ago at Oregon, United States. She fired an overall 206 in the three-day tournament to finish tied for the fourth position on the leaderboard. Kerr’s performance grabbed spectators’ attention in the opening round as she posted a solid 66, ramping up pressure on her nearest rivals.
Although she took some days off before participating in the Safeway Classic, her performance did not look shaky at all.
“I think I took nine days off. Well, I'm not as young as I used to be. I have my elbow I've got to worry about now, and little injuries and I'll take a little more time off for when I can manage it,” she told during the tournament.
Commentators said that the LPGA titan is concerned about her victory drought, especially at a time when new players from Asian countries are recording victories.
Kerr is going to participate in the upcoming Kingsmill Championship 2012, set to start from September 6-9 at the Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia, and eyes will definitely be fixed on her due to her past record at the tournament.
The 34-year-old star has won two editions of the Kingsmill Championship. She displayed a solid performance in the 2005 edition of the tournament as she scored an overall 276 to clinch the title. Then in 2009, she grabbed yet another title.
The Kingsmill Championship is going to be held after a gap of two years. The tournament had to be suspended due to sponsorship row, from 2010 to 2011.
