Cristie Kerr inside top 10 in Taiwan
American Cristie Kerr displayed a good performance at the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012 as she carded an overall 279 to finish tied for the sixth position along with Swedish Anna Nordqvist.
Kerr, who was one of the veterans in the field of Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship, sought to end her victory drought in Taiwan, but a grim performance in the last round and some mistakes
on the opening day dragged her away from a triumph.
Kerr shot a 70 in the first round to make a decent start, but according to commentators, the 35-year-old could have done a lot better because she missed plenty of good chances on some of the
easier holes.
Commentators also said that the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) star will have to acknowledge the ever-increasing might of Asian rivals as playing against them on their home soil
was more difficult than on an American course.
Kerr might have enjoyed a rousing reception at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club last Thursday, but she lacked the ambition that would have helped her sail to victory.
She boosted her position in the second and third round as she posted a 69 and 67 respectively, but came crashing down one spot to a tie of sixth after she carded a 73 in the fourth round on
Sunday.
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen gave Asian rivals a hard time as she once again clinched a title. Pettersen displayed a solid performance in all four rounds of Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship
2012 as she posted an overall 269 to record her second straight victory.
“I felt when I made the putt on 15 I felt pretty comfortable. That was the first time I kind of let my head go a fraction ahead. And knowing the 16 was a tough par‑3 I couldn't really think
about it too much longer,” Pettersen said at the end of the fourth round on Sunday.
“Teeing off on 18 with a two‑shot lead, hitting the fairway I felt pretty good”.
South Korean Inbee Park also proved her mettle as she carded an overall 272 to take the second position.
Defending champion Yani Tseng, who had a home crowd advantage, finished third after registering a total score of 273 on the leaderboard.
