Cristie Kerr looks to make a comeback at Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012
American Cristie Kerr is ready to face rivals at the upcoming Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 after her soul-crushing exit at the Kingsmill Championship 2012, as she missed the cut.
The Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012, which is slated to be played from September 13-16, at Royal Golf Club, Hoylake, Wirral, United Kingdom, will see Kerr tee off along with Suzann Pettersen of Norway and Erina Hara.
So far this year, Kerr has done anything but earn a much-wanted LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) victory, but observers say the American star is keen to make headway after facing a series of blows in most of the tournaments.
Kerr has been winless since her last triumph at the LPGA Championship and this week’s battle at the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 will give her a good chance to prove her worth once again.
According to the officials of British Open, this year’s field is pretty tough, as most of the top-100 LPGA stars are going to tee off.
Key contenders confirmed to tee off on Thursday include current world number one Yani Tseng, Ai Miyazato, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis, Catriona Matthew, Caroline Hedwall, Chella Choi, Karine Icher, Rebecca Hudson, Lexi Thompson, Kaori Ohe, Lydia Ko, Michelle Wie, Carly Booth, Beatriz Recari, Gerina Piller, So Yeon Ryu, Jessica Korda and Katherine Hull.
Observers said that the weather conditions are pretty rough at Hoylake at the moment as it is quite windy out there. They said if the windy conditions persist, players will find it hard to post good scores.
They said that there are several contenders in the roster, who have the ability to clinch the title this week, but a few names can be singled out to predict the final outcome.
Japanese Ai Miyazato, who is performing solid these days as she has managed to record two victories in the current season, is likely to give all her rivals a tough time.
At the moment, Miyazato seems to be satisfied with her current form, as she said in her interview on Tuesday that she is fully fit to face rivals this week.
“It's going to be an interesting week this week, because I heard that a few players that had a practise round yesterday and it was totally opposite wind direction,” the Japanese star said.
