Cristie Kerr says Kingsmill is her favourite course
American Cristie Kerr has said that Kingsmill is her “favourite course” and she will try her best to win the coming Kingsmill Championship 2012 once again.
Kerr, who has won two titles at the Kingsmill Championship so far, which has put her in the strongest position. The tournament has been played under different names, but the course has remained the same.
The American star amazed her fans in the 2009 of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament that was played under the title of Michelob Ultra Open. Before proving her mettle in the 2009 edition, Kerr did the same in the 2005 edition as well.
Commentators said that the LPGA giant is no doubt the hot favourite for the coveted title, but the match is likely to turn into a nerve-jangling battle due to a strong roster.
Key contenders who have confirmed their commitment to take part in the Kingsmill Championship include current world number one Yani Tseng, Natalie Gulbis, Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson, Brittany Lang, Brittany Lincicome, Katherine Hull, Juli Inkster, Ai Miyazato, Shanshan Feng, Na Yeon Choi, Inbee Park, Mika Miyazato, Lorie Kane, Angela Stanford, Jane Park and Jodi Ewart.
Despite a strong roster, Kerr appears to be in a much better situation than most of the other top-ranked contenders.
She shared her thoughts about the looming battle in her interview, saying she is pretty confident about the Kingsmill Championship, as she has some remarkable memories attached to it. She said that one of the biggest attractions for her is the course.
“I am so happy to be here. The LPGA belongs here, I belong here. This is my favourite course. When I returned to my housing I felt like I had been away at college for four years and was back home,” Kerr said.
However, the two-time winner will have to put her best foot forward in order to win the third title. Current world number one Yani Tseng has already vowed to do her best this time as she has been seeking to end her victory drought.
Juli Inkster, who is also in the roster, praised Kerr saying she likes her game. "I've had a good work ethic to go along with a little talent and a big heart. I'm a grinder. Cristie is like that, too. But she has more talent. She won't accept mediocrity,” Inkster said.
