Cristie Kerr says she has "great memories" about Kingsmill Championship
American Cristie Kerr is more than happy to be in the Kingsmill Championship 2012 roster as she said the tournament reminds her of good times.
"I think nobody's looked forward to it more than me,'' she said on Wednesday. ''I've got great memories here and I stay with a great family ... and it's such a great time".
"The golf course is one of my favourites. It's about my favourite on tour, and I've just got good feelings all around when I come here”.
Kerr went on to say that she has the feeling that she is going to shine here once again. “I felt that walking around the golf course today. Yeah, I want to win really bad. It's getting to the point where, OK, it's time for one,” she shared.
Kerr is being regarded as the hot favourite contender for the Kingsmill Championship 2012, slated to start from September 6-9 at Williamsburg, Virginia, as she has racked up two titles of the prestigious tournament.
The American star first won the tournament in 2005, and then in the 2009 season, she impressed her fans once again clinching her second victory. The tournament was played under the title of Michelob Ultra Open, at Kingsmill.
Now that the officials have given the tournament its new name — Kingsmill Championship. The players are taking keen interest, as they want to make a solid start at their one of their most favourite events.
The 2012 season saw an influx of plenty of young golfers—mostly from Asian countries—which means that the veterans will have to put their best feet forward in order to maintain their grip on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event.
Commentators said that despite an influx of talented players into the LPGA Tour, much of the attention will be focused on the past winners like Kerr and the top-ranked stars, such as current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis of the United States and Paula Creamer.
However, mixed in among these top LPGA golfers, there are a handful of prospects who are seeing the Kingsmill Championship 2012 from a different perspective.
On top of the list is Lydia Ko of New Zealand, who is more than thrilled to find a spot in the roster.
Ko won her first LPGA title at the CN Canadian Women’s Open, held last week at the Vancouver Golf Club, Canada.
