Cristie Kerr sets sights on Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012
American Cristie Kerr could not live up to the expectations of her fans at the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, but she appears to have set her sight on the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, set to take place from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Kerr, who won the 2010 edition of the Wegmans LPGA Championship, was expected to perform well this year too, but could not finish among the top-10.
However, she displayed a balanced game on the course, highlighting that she has what it takes to trouble her rivals. The American star is now eyeing the upcoming tournament, vowing to repeat her past performance that helped her win the LPGA Championship
2010.
The field for the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic has not been completed yet, however, key contenders who are confirmed to participate in the event, include Stacy Lewis, Lorie Kane of Canada, Michelle Wie from the United States, Paula Creamer, Spanish Azahara
Munoz, Ai Miyazato and Canadian Alena Sharp.
Tournament officials said that the 144-player field will be completed in a day or two.
The year 2010 has been the most momentous season for Kerr, as she racked up two prestigious titles. First, she stole the show at the LPGA State Farm Classic in June 2010, and then grabbed a major title at the LPGA Championship, just two weeks later.
The American prodigy spoke to the media during the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, saying she has not been able to find full form in the current year.
She added that the last year was comparatively better, as she played the way she wanted to.
“Last year I didn't think there was that much rough.  The year I won there was a lot of rough.  Maybe not quite as tall as it is even this year.  But it certainly wasn't as dense.  It's just gobbling up the golf balls this year,” the 34-year-old said.
During the LPGA Championship 2012, one of the four major tournaments of LPGA Tour, Kerr looked a little out of her form, as she got off to a lacklustre start. She exhibited a worse-than-average game in the second round, as she posted a 76.
However, analysts said that the professional golfer is eager to get back on track in the upcoming event at Waterloo.
