Cristie Kerr slips to 12th spot in world rankings, but keeps her hopes up

American Cristie Kerr, whose performance has not been up to the mark in some of the recent tournaments, has dropped to the 12th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
While Kerr, one of the most prominent Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars, may be dejected by the latest slump in her world ranking, her overall performance on the Tour has been so good that it
still makes the American golfer favourite for many.
Despite having been in the headlines for years, Kerr has not been able to win an LPGA event since her last victory at the LPGA Championship 2010 — where she beat South Korean Song-Hee Kim.
The latest confrontation at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, where Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 was held, saw the LPGA phenom perform relatively better as she posted an overall 296 to finish tied
for the thirteenth position on the leaderboard.
The 34-year-old golfer has played in major tournaments over the years quite frequently and has become a prominent figure on the LPGA Tour.
Having grabbed 14 LPGA titles and one Futures Tour, Kerr boasts a solid profile and still strikes fear into most her archrivals.
As for the major championships, the American star has also made a name for herself. She has won two major titles so far and is seeking to add more such successes to her profile.
Observers said that Kerr can bounce back as she is known to make quick comebacks and has been proving it since she joined professional golf in 1996.
Although there have been several occasions in the recent past that seemed to rattle the LPGA titan, her latest performance at the British Open 2012 speaks for itself, indicating that Kerr is now determined
to put her grim past behind and move on with renewed vigour.
“I'm always looking for ways to get better and improve my game. I've  been playing so great and hitting it well, making  a couple more putts a couple  of weeks this year, and I walk away with a  couple of wins
instead of a second  or a third or a fourth,” she had said in one of her interviews.
Kerr’s putting has been nothing short of amazing, but the recent blows that came in the form of woeful finishes — such as her missing the cut in the Kingsmill Championship 2012 — the experienced LPGA star is
taking her game more seriously than ever before, and will hopefully end her victory drought.
