Cristoforo Colombo has what it takes to land the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot
Trainer Aidan O’Brien is hoping that he can saddle the seventh winner in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot on 19th June, 2012, where he is counting on Cristoforo Colombo and Lines Of Battle to earn him victory in the
six furlong race.
Cristoforo Colombo, will ride in the capable of hands of rider, Joseph O’Brien, who led him to victory at Navan in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden
Over a distance of six furlongs, the race served as the maiden for the two-year-old colt, and he bagged it over, Scream Blue Murder, on 20th May, 2012.
The Coventry Stakes is a big leap in class for Cristoforo Colombo, but jockey Joseph O’Brien seems to have confidence in his ability, as he commented:
"He seems a nice horse. Obviously it's a big step up from his first run from winning a maiden to the Coventry, but he seems to have done things right at home."
The son of Henrythenavigator, out of mare La Traviata, is likely to repeat the feat his sire did, as Henrythenavigator emerged triumphant from the Coventry Stakes back in 2007 at the Royal Ascot.
The Charles Hills trained, Funk Soul Brother, will also compete in the Coventry Stakes, with the hope of securing another victory.
After his magnificent maiden at York, where he emerged successful from the Stratford Place Stud For International Group 1 Winners EBF Maiden Stakes on 17th May, 2012, under jockey, Michael Hills.
This time, the command will be taken by rider, Darryll Holland, a decision that the trainer is satisfied with as he told the press:
“We are pleased Darryll Holland is riding Funk Soul Brother as he partnered him in his first ever bit of work and loved him then."
It seems to be a good choice by Charles Hills to reserve Michael Hills as the rider’s jockey.
Michael Hills, the trainer’s son will be teamed with the two-year-old, Englishman, who notched a victory in the five furlong Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd E B F Maiden Stakes at Newbury on 20th April, 2012.
