The developers of the Burnout series and more recently, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit are hiring for an upcoming “brutal car action” game.
In the video game industry, news very rarely comes direct from the source responsible for the material but rather from a third-party, a leak, a listing on an online retail store, a slip of tongue, a ‘no comment’ and of course, the industry favourite, job listings and CVs.
Dead Space 3 was outed by an Israeli television channel that went to Visceral Games’ office and shot footage of what was a board with Dead Space 3 on it. The game also appeared on the CV of one of the developers, who had posted it online as well.
God of War: Ascension was recently found listed on Amazon.com, available for pre-order and complete with a trailer before Sony had made the official announcement.
However, the latest story comes from a job advertisement at Criterion games that heavily hints towards the next game in the long running, explosive Burnout series.
The series debuted on the current generation of consoles in some style with Burnout Paradise, which introduced gamers to some of the best visuals in a racing game, explosive racing action, an unparalleled sense of speed and of course, the beautiful Paradise City.
It changed the core dynamics of the Burnout series but still retained the carnage that had won the series such a fanatic fan following. The developers then gave the Need for Speed series a complete overhaul and in essence, gave it the Burnout treatment with Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.
Now it seems that the studio is set to return to its original series as the job advertisement states that Criterion games is “hiring and actively looking to add the world’ top talent to a team that just delivered the highest rated Need for Speed title yet.”
The advert continued, “….is a very exciting time to join Criterion Games and anyone that joins us will be working on top selling, world class games, on cutting edge hardware in an extremely creative environment.”
However, the biggest give away has to be when the advert says that the game is focused on “brutal car action”.
Fans of the series will be hoping for another Burnout title and no one can blame them with Burnout Paradise still played by an impressive number of players on a weekly basis.
