Criticism on me is unfair, says Sourav Ganguly – Cricket News Update
Former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly, feels that the on-going criticism on him is unfair and expressed that the media and former cricketers have double standards because they do not go after some of the other players.
Ganguly is currently leading Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 in the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he and his team have miserably failed to deliver the goods and are effectively out of the reckoning to qualify for the play-off stage of the tournament.
‘Dada’ is considered to be one of the most successful captains of the history of Indian cricket. The left-handed batsman retired from international cricket in 2008 but has been playing domestic cricket since then.
The former Indian captain has been heavily criticized in this year’s IPL because of his inability to keep up with the pace of the shortest format of the game. Another former Indian captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bishan-Singh-Bedi-c48133 even advised him to call it a day from domestic
cricket, in order to make way for the youngsters.
Ganguly admitted that he has been a touch inconsistent this season but expressed that many other players have also struggled but all the analysts are just criticizing him, which the former captain thinks is not fair.
He said while showing his dissent, "It has been patchy. I have played well at times, I haven't played well at times, that's the way T20 format is. There are quite a few players who haven't played well, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 gets criticised more than the others,
that has been the trend for the last 15 years.”
Pune will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore today and Ganguly believes that if his team is to dismantle the stronger opponent, it must restrict the destructive left-handed batsman from the Caribbean, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221.
"You have to get Gayle out. He has become a very smart T20 cricketer. He doesn't go after the bowling from ball one. He looks to bat 15-20 overs. And if he does that, he would hurt a lot of sides," Ganguly added.
It is most likely that Ganguly is playing his last season of the cash-rich league.
