Critics believe Sebastian Vettel still not amongst the best - Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel is unable to impress the critics despite the fact that he holds the record for being the youngest triple world champion.
The young German started off his career with Toro Rosso and impressed one and all with his driving skills. He was soon given a chance to showcase his talent in
Red Bull, where he proved to be dominant against some of the best drivers in the business like Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and even Michael Schumacher, who returned to the sport for a three year stint with Mercedes.
Despite all that, critics feel that Vettel makes some mistakes when under pressure and he is only enjoying success because of a strong car under him.
Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard believes, “Do I think he has to move (teams) to cement his legacy? Yes, I do. Seb is a good driver, a world-class driver.
But he hasn’t overcome adversity yet in terms of being with another team or being up against a teammate who was already world champion.”
On the other hand, the 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve stated, “The difference with Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton is that they are always fighting,
regardless of their place and whether their car is good. They always give everything. On this level, Vettel does not impress me.”
The reigning world champion has been under the scanner since winning his maiden title in 2010. He struggled during that season and was behind his team-mate Mark
Webber until the very end.
However, the final race proved to be a good one for Vettel and he benefitted because of Ferrari’s poor strategy, winning the championship by the slightest of margins.
Next year proved to be dominant for him, as Red Bull was superior over all other teams.
Things got tighter once again in 2012 and Alonso took the title fight to the final race of the season in Brazil. Once again, Red Bull proved to be the better car,
allowing Vettel to claim his third consecutive championship.
Despite all those efforts, critics believe that the record holding driver needs to prove his skills by moving into another team and performing under pressure.
