I got Laredo all prettied up and wanted to here what everyone thought of him. He is a '99 15hh Palomino Quarter Horse gelding. I jump him (record is 4'1), and I was wondering if he had any disadvantages or advantages for jumping, comformation wise

Thanks.

  1. First of all, NICE bareback jump! That's really high, and you and your horse look really good going over it. Beautiful.

Now, for the conformation. I am not crazy about how he's standing under himself in all the pictures of him standing square, but as far as I know that's not a major fault that stops you from jumping 4'1"! I like his shoulder angle. Usually jumpers have a slightly straighter angle, but that's not completely necessary, and if he's jumping 4'1" with you bareback I think no conformation fault is major enough for him to get hurt! I love his coloring. His neck is a little small, but working on hills or doing some dressage or something like that would strengthen (sp?) that.

I'm really in awe about that jumping, I'd love to do that with my QH. She jumps almost 4', but that's without me (I can't jump that high, never been trained, my max is about 2 feet :)).

  2. you're such a showoff lol ;) !!! that's amazing. his fore legs look a little underneath him, but other than that, he looks great. keep on jumpin!

  3. WHOA!!!  You're amazing!  To be honest, when I first saw the pictures of him - my thought was - "no way, that horse can't jump!"  I'm glad I looked at the last picture!

Horses that are used for jumping, typically are taller, have shorter backs, and better leg conformation.  Your horse appears to be camped under in the front and sickle hocked in the pack.  HOWEVER - no-one told your horse all that and he CAN jump!

Looks like you guys do great at what you do and once again, it proves that training and a good rider can do more than first impressions.  Good for you!

  4. That bareback jump was FANTASTIC!!!!!! your horse is beautiful!

  5. He's beautiful! :)

God i miss jumping that high, he looks like hes got a lovely jump on him and he could go far.

When i looked at the first two pictures he appeared to be quite long with short legs, but then when i looked at the last picture that doesn't seem to matter!

    Have fun :)

    xx
