  1. fantastic

  2. definitly look like you got talent and a good eye for photography. Your angles were good, they were different too which is something you need to be in photo-being different from others is the key. I like how you added color to only certain parts to pictures, like the one of the baby in the orange jacket being held. Also the mirror thing was really good too. I liked the Sarah 2 picture for portraits. the angle and the background were good. I like how texture was added to the white background. Some of the lighting seemed a little dark in a few, i think it was more of the up close ones, but its an easy fix in photoshop.

Definitly headed in the right direction, little more work and you will be awesome.

  3. Do visit the Zeltsman site on posing.  A couple of the portrait shots are wayyyyyyyy over-Photoshopped, especially the skin and the eyes.  A little sharpening in the eye is a good thing.  Her eyes look like frog eyes, very weird and not attractive especially in #4.  Remove the bad Photoshop  job and it would be much better.  Overall, I thought they were a pretty good attempt for a first time.

  4. good job :D

  5. Not bad. (I have to say here I dont mind the 'forgotten' photo)

Sarah #1 - I think you could have done with filling the frame with your subject a little more, she seems too small in the picture and the stuff in the background makes it distracting.

Sarah #2 - I think it would have been nice for her to be smiling in this shot, maybe even looking at the camera? Dont make the mistake of having all shots with the exact same expression, mix it up a bit ;)

Sarah - #3 Is nice, the lighting is good and its nice and clear. If it were me I would have put the blank space in front of her instead of behind her, but thats just prsonal preference.

I agree with the comment above, Sarah #4 looks waaaaay too overprocessed...Makes her look a bit like an alien!

Sarah #5 - Not too bad. Nicely composed. A hint, if you can get people to lean forwards a bit, it gets rid of some double-chin mishaps (your models will thank you for suggesting it!)

I hope thats of some help. Remember, practice makes perfect so keep going!

  6. The head tipped down lengthens an already long nose, 1 & two are better positions for this model. The others are technically broad side views of the face which tend to make a person heavier looking. If you had moved her away from the backdrop and used a shallow depth of field the wrinkles in it would have softened.

This site has highly dated images, but the information is still correct and is a great source for someone trying to understand portraiture. The information here can be applied outside of a studio setting.http://groups.msn.com/Asktheoleproaboutp...

Keep shooting, skills take time and effort and it's obvious in these images that you are willing to put the time and energy into working on it!

  7. Hi, I think the portraits are pretty good for your very first time.  The lighting is nice and natural-feeling and the angles and cropping feel pretty good too. For me the big problem is that her skin is too smoothed!  Especially in Sarah 4 -- wow.  It's a real skill/art that takes a lot of practice.  Better to underdo it for now than overdo it.

  8. I love your pics! I liked how you made some black and white and color. It makes the things that are color pop! Sarah is pretty she should smile more lol. I'm no photographer sorry but I did love your pics. :)
