Critique my website?

Question

My website is www.liverystable.net. We have been online for about 18 months, we have a very good SEO program in place and are working our way to the top of our main keywords.

Please give me your impressions on our layout, content and usability. I do want to make sure I have an attractive and easy to use website, so I would appreciate any suggestions people may have. Thanks

DISCLAIMER...I'm honestly not trying to use the horse section to shamelessly plug this site, I REALLY need feedback on this site and what's good and bad about it because we want to be able to compete with the big boys in the horse classified website business. Thanks again.

nice website. but mabe you could use a pic. of a horse as the layout. or a little more horses for people to buy

First thing I notice is that you have more than one Log in and register button. there is one on the left side of the page and one on the right.  out of the two I would suggest keeping the ones on the right.

Secondly I notice that the picture with the links dubbed over it there is a gate with the fence. The fence is just sort of cut off in nowhere the blue sky background keeps going but no fence. I would crop the picture differently or photoshop it so the fence goes to the edge of the picture. also there is a space in between the picture and "the round pen" this is not consistent with the rest of the site.

There is another feature I have become accustomed to but don't see on your site. Usually when hovering over a picture you will get a bit of a description(I am referring to your "Bucks Best") it would be good to see the title of the sale maybe.

I would tend to agree with Princess Arial regarding the front page being busy looking. Also some of the spacing issues I have mentioned may be because I am using FireFox. I have made a few web pages and found that testing my site in all the major browsers to be beneficial.

Hi,

Firstly I like the clever use of stables as a menu at the top of the page. The search page is easy to use although it could do with having more options when searching for horses, such as breed, colour, size etc

I immediately think the site (on the front page) is too 'busy' - there seems to be too much to try and look at at once. Try and keep it simple. Also, whilst the stable door menu is a good idea, the two menus below it are too small and look unimportant.(i.e. with the 'home' and 'login' buttons)

I would also move the introductory piece of writing to the top of the screen as you have to scroll down the whole page to actually find out what the site is about! The colours are ok - a bit dark perhaps.

This is the UK yahoo site and your page is aimed at US audiences, although you don't know this until you take time to view a horse for sale and find it in dollars. Perhaps ask your intended market what they think!!
