Crius curious to claim victory in Craven Stakes
Crius is anticipated to demonstrate a calculated and decent run at Newmarket racecourse in a bid to claim top spot in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) that will be held today, April 19.
The Richard Hannon-trained bay colt will confidently compete against a dozen of rivals including Trumpet Major, Beaufort Twelve, Born To Surprise, Campanology, Eastern Sun, Forgotten Hero, Miblish, Mighty Ambition, Minstrels Gallery, Most Improved, Ptolemaic
and Rayvin Black.
The Class 1 contest over a distance of 1 mile is scheduled to commence at 4:10 (GMT). A prize cheque of £31,191 is ready for the runner who is destined to win the mega marathon.
Crius possesses an outstanding track record. After winning the first two races of his career in July 2011, the three-year-old talented horse earned a couple of consecutive runner-up ranks during August-September.
The Titan Assets-owned brilliant colt elegantly clinched top spot in his last outing on September 22. Thus, he is enjoying more than 50 percent success ratio and with this, a favourable position in the market.
Currently, Crius is awash with winning moment which will help him thrive in the Craven Stakes. The hot favourite colt’s chances to finish first are as high as 94 percent provided he shows a clean and smooth run on the track.
Among the colt’s competitors, Born To Surprise and Eastern Sun look to be strong enough and each one of the duo can give tough time to Crius.
Born To Surprise excellently grabbed a runner-up spot in his maiden race on September 29, 2011. The Michael Bell-trained bay colt moved ahead to finish first in the second and last race of his career on April 1, 2012. He was 7-4 favourite for that event.
On the other hand, Easter Sun has won two out of his total three starts to date. The John Gosden-trained brilliant colt won the first and last races of his career nicely.
In order to keep his head high in the face of these adversaries and seal a success, Crius will have to fight with his back to the wall. He has no chance to make an error. Good luck to all the contestants.
