Croatia occupies 9th position by beating Netherlands: Day 13 – European Water Polo Championships
Croatian national squad beat Netherlands in the Men’s classification round for ninth-tenth position on thirteenth day of the ongoing 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Saturday, January 28 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband
Swim Stadium.
The Croatian team faced no trouble in overpowering Dutch squad and grabbed victory by a significant margin of 12 goals. They remained dominant over their challenging team throughout the 32-minute game and wrapped up a 16-4 victory.
These Championships were organised under the Ligue Europeenne de Natation (LEN), which is the European aquatic sports organising body. These Championships are of substantial importance as they pave the way for the 2012 London Olympic Games and provide a
chance to world-class teams to overwhelm their deficiencies before the mega event.
The Croatian squad proved their talent in the first quarter, where they notched up two goals and outperformed lone goal effort of Netherlands, making the score 2-1 after the round.
The arena went wild in the second quarter, where Netherlands scored just one goal and faced scintillating efforts of Croatian players, who accomplished five goals and the score went up to 7-2 after the halftime.
With their immaculate efforts, Croatian squad gave no chance to Dutch team and continued their supremacy by clinching four goals. On the other hand, Netherlanders managed to improve their score by just two goals and the round expired at 11-4.
The same continued in the fourth quarter, where Croatian team suppressed all goal attempts of their challenging team and advanced on the points table by capturing five goals. In contrast, Netherlands failed to show any improvement on their end and lost the
match by twelve points.
Sandro Sukno of Croatia chipped in five goals for his team and earned man of the match award for playing a vital part in his team’s accomplishment. Furthermore, the arena enjoyed commendable efforts of Croatian squad in the four-quarter game.
In addition, after finishing ninth at the European Championships, the Croatian team aroused expectations of their fans by expressing that they will work hard and will try to improve their position at the forthcoming Olympic Games.
