Croatia to host 2011 CEV Volleyball European League
The 2011 CEV Volleyball European League is scheduled to start on May 27 and Croatia will host the event.
The double-gender tournament will be attended by 24 European Teams. In the men’s section, teams from Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Croatia, Spain, Great Britain, Greece, Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey will take part in the campaign.
On the other hand, the women’s teams from Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Romania, Turkey and Serbia will hit the podium.
Croatia will host the competition and all the arrangement have been finalised. The city of Slavonski Brod will be home of action in next week. The President of the Croatian Volleyball Organization, Mr. Zdeslav Barač expressed delight that Croatia is going
to host such wonderful event.
He stated, “We are extremely pleased that our country is going to play host to such a prestigious competition with even more flavour descending from the participation of both our national teams that will be able to even play on the same weekend.”
He further added, “The city of Slavonski Brod will host two rounds of the women’s competition with the double headers against Turkey and Belarus, plus a double confrontation with Belgium in the men’s division. We have decided to allot the organization of
so many matches to this city because here we have excellent infrastructures and conditions, plus this is an area with a strong connection with Volleyball.”
Last Friday, the Croatian Volleyball Federation held a press conference at the Vijus Sports Hall in the host city and invited the national and local media. The President of the Croatian Volleyball Federation and captains of both men’s and women’s Croatian
teams attended the press gathering and answered different questions regarding the upcoming event.
The men’s team of Croatia has been placed in Pool A along with teams from Belgium, Slovenia and Great Britain. They will play their first match on May 28, 2011 by taking on the British team. On the other side, the women’s team of Croatia will be grouped
with Romania, Turkey and Belarus in Pool C of the first round. The women’s side will open the tournament against Romania on May 28.
The home teams will have the competitive edge of playing at home and familiar conditions will certainly help them perform better. The local volleyball fans are getting ready to support their teams in the competition. This is indeed a great chance for Croatia
to display an incredible show of volleyball and enjoy the limelight.
