Can someone explain these directions in real crochet language?

When I get to Row 3 in the Spider Pattern shouldn't I chain 3 at the beginning of the row?

In the main instructions for row 2-10 where it says make 8 repeats does this mean each row is one spider pattern and I need to do this whole spider thing 8 times?

I love the pattern, but the instructions are lousy.

  1. Row 3 starts with a triple crochet . I use chain 4 for a tr cr at the beginning of a row. It is the same length as a treble.

the pattern states that 8 st = the pattern

a repeat is from a * to a * and it is done 8 times.if it states that.

Try writing each row of the pattern on a piece of paper and leave a space in between so each row stands out. That is what I do because I find it less confusing, then check it off when finished.

  3. Ok, from what I get from it is you do not chain 3 on row 3. It looks like the tc will take care of that.  One repeat of the spider pattern is 8 stitches, which means that if you count out the number of stitches(do not count the ch 3 starting the row) in row 2, you will get a total of 8 stitches. To make the row, you must repeat the set of 8 stitches 8 times to create the motif.  If you still are having trouble, you can always contact the pattern's creator.  They may have written the pattern wrong or forgot to add something.  I have had this happen to me when I was in the middle of a pattern.  Try the pattern out, as you can always rip it apart and try again.  Thank goodness this is a small pattern and not a sweater pattern for an adult.  That can be frustrating when you are waiting for corrections on a project that large and in a hurry to get it done!  Good luck. :)
