Okay, so I've been crocheting for a little while and I've noticed one thing. Quite a few of my pieces have a bothersome curl to them. I'm not quire sure why this is happening, but I would like to improve and I would like for it to stop. Advice?

  1. Block them

  2. It's because when you finish a row and start the next one, the stitches on the ends are too tight. That pulls and causes the ends to curl in. Try adding a few extra chain stitches on the last stitch of each row to reduce the pull.

  3. The edges are too tight. You need to put more stitches into your pieces, particularly at the edges. It's hard to describe in a general way but that's almost certainly the problem.

Also, crocheting with heavy, slippy threads like silk tend to curl and misbehave much less than stiffer threads like wool or rough cotton.

To help the situation you could try ironing your pieces between two damp clothes to try and press them into shape. This will probably rescue all the things you've crocheted so far.

Good luck, hope this helped xxxx

  4. try not to crochet them to tight thats all i got sry

  5. It could be your tension or how tightly you are making the sts, but if your tension is the same for all sts, no matter how tight, it won't matter.  You could be turning and starting a new row wrong and increasing and decreasing on the edges.  It also depends on the stitch pattern you are doing, some naturally curl.  If you are doing basic sts like sc, dc, etc then you won't need to block it so that it is probably the problems above.

  6. You are pulling your yarn too tight- Let it sit loose in your hands, and don't make your stitches so tight..... That should help alot!

  7. It's quite common for the work to curl. You can dampen the finished item slightly and then "block" it to stop the curling.
