Question:

Crochet and knitting - stylish?

I crochet and knit. Why is it when I make a hat/scarf combo out of crochet, I'm asked, "oh is that a handmade set?" - like it's a bad thing. Yet when I knit something, I'm asked, "where'd you buy that gorgeous xyz?" Is one considered more stylish or professional looking than the other?

  1. I'd say it is because crocheting has a unique look that seems less uniform than knitting, and since it looks more complicated, people conclude that a machine could not have created it.

However, knitting is a material that people are very familiar with, especially since chunky (machine) knit hats are becoming popular.  Since they've seen something like that before hanging on a Walmart shelf, they assume that the hat could definately be store-bought.

Also, strangely enough, it might be that it is hard to find a quality matching hat/scarf set that is not handmade.
