Question:

Crochet bibs too stiff?

I'm making some bibs for my niece's baby, and apparently I used the wrong kind of yarn to make them. Is there anything I can do to soften them up a little bit before I give them to her?

  1. Don't think I'm weird for answering this question. My daughter had the same problem. A couple of times through the wash/dry cycle helped a bit.

  2. soak in water for a while or just keep washing them with every load of laundry you do for a while.. that should loosen them up.. if not use a looser stitch when crocheting them.

  3. try frabric softerner

  4. You may want to try a swatch of the yarn you used and wash that rather than the bibs themselves first to see how the yarn reacts.  You just might need to frog them and rework them with a larger crochet hook if washing doesn't do the trick.

  5. I've made items that came out hard but once i wash them and put in fabric conditioner they were fine.

  6. I have soaked things in fabric softener in my sink with a bit of cold water and it seemed to work.  Frequent washing should also loosen the fibers a bit as well.
