  1. I think you have a knitting pattern.  Purl is a knitting term.  I suspect that this purl row makes a ridge on the public side of your work.  If you've been crocheting this up to here, then you might want to work this row in the stitch you've been using, or do 2 rows of single crochet it the front loops only.  I won't, however, guarantee that you'd get the same effect.  If you really like this pattern, I think you may have to learn to knit.

  2. I have never heard of purling used in crochet.  Have you gotten to  row 25?   What are they asking you to do in the other odd numbered rows i.e. row 23 and 27?  It may be a typing error.  Let me know about the two rows I questioned and I'll try to help   e-mail me.

  3. You have a knitting pattern.  If you really love the pattern, there are a few easy ways to learn to knit.

    1.  www.lionbrandyarn.com has some great instructions.

    2.  Go to Joann Fabrics and purchase an interactive CD called "Knitting Made Easy" which is put out by Red Heart which is the same company as Coats and Clarks.  This is my favorite option for you.

    3.  Your local craft/hobby/yarn store probably has some classes you could take or if not, someone there that would teach you the stitch.

    4. Their are a ton of videos on You Tube that you may enjoy watching and trying along.

    5. Yahoo Answers...click on Discover and put in the word "knitting" and you will get a ton of answers.  Someone is bound to have asked it before.  Also, when you search broadly like this, there is a ton of information from what I like to call the experts.  These are the people that have been doing this for years and years.  What a great, free way to learn a new skill.

    Good luck with our blanket!

    PS.  Purchase yourself a pair of knitting needles and a light color of yarn.  thsi way you can practice it and it is sooo much easier to see your stitches on the lighter color of yarn while you learn the new stitches.  Knit a square approximately 4" X 4" and than cast off.  Staple your square to a piece of paper and label it with the stitch and the size of needles you used.  Hole punch and put in a binder for future reference.

  4. I agree with the previous post; that is a knit pattern.

    >purl is knitting

    when looking for a crochet pattern you should look for these terms:

    single crochet - sc

    slip stitch - sl

    DC= Double Crochet

    DTR= double treble

    TR= treble crochet

    Sk = Skip

    sp = space

    st =stitches

    tch =turning chain

    Yo = yarn over

    hdc= half double crochet

    I hope these help
