okay so on my way to dinner with friends tonight we came up with some questions....

1)when out running a crocodile is there a specific ratio you should follow while zig-zagging....like how far apart should your zigs and zags be?

2) Can Crocodiles and alligators have s*x and produce eggs/ babies...what would they be called?

3) how do you determine the s*x of an alligator/ crocodile

  1. Several different species of crocodile can hybridize with each other - saltwater and Siamese crocodiles, Morelet's and American crocodiles, and so on - but crocs and gators last shared a common ancestor about 80 million years ago, and they're genetically very different from each other.  It would be all but impossible for them to hybridize.

EDIT:  the answerer above is correct - unless the animals are very young, males are nearly always bigger than females of the same age.

  2. if u run from a croc chances r that they wont run after u! they wait for their food to come to them.

yes croc lay eggs they are called babies

the easiest way to tell the s*x of a croc is by size. females tend to be bigger.

  3. Just run. Zigzags are for when someone's shooting at you. Crocodilians won't pursue you on land.

No, they can't interbreed, but if they could, they'd be crocogators.

The first answerer had this one wrong. Males attain larger sizes than females in the crocodilian world. Not 100% on the average sizes of most crocs, but with gators females usually top out around 7 feet, males at 9. Like all reptiles, alligators continue to grow throughout their lives, these are just the sizes that growth tends to slow considerably at. 9 and even 10 foot females do exist... they're just few and far between and very old, the same goes for males over 13 feet. The only way to tell for sure is to stick your finger in it's vent and see if you feel a p***s. Not a good way to make friends.

  4. Most crocadilians are ambush hunters and won't chase you. however if you do get chased its not running in zigzags that will help its the fact that you should make quick turns as they cant turn easily. However they dont have much stamina running out of water so i wouldnt worry too much about being chased for that long.

    Idk if they can interbreed.

s*x is determaned by the temperature in the nest when the eggs are incubating. Also there is a size differnce but that dosnt help unless you know the age of the two crocs to be sure one just isnt younger and smaller then the other.
