Crohn’s disease might trouble Ali Carter in 2012 World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
Former runner up in the 2008 World Snooker Championship, England’s Ali Carter played convincingly in the recent snooker season but he was troubled by Crohn’s disease during his season campaign but still he continued performing well in the circuit. However,
news of the disease did raise questions about his future and he even considered retirement but later he decided to stay.
This season, a couple of top dogs of snooker were troubled by their health and they were not able to play full swing. These players include the former three-time World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan who suffered from glandular fever and was forced to
pull out of the 2012 Haikou World Open snooker tournament. He played the 2012 China Open snooker event without fully recovering from the disease.
On the other hand, the World Number one, Mark Selby also had a neck injury which made him withdraw from the 2012 China Open. The Jester from Leicester is also worried about his injury during the 2012 World Snooker Championship. Meanwhile, Ali Carter is aware
of the repercussions and is hoping for a positive play at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Initially when he talked about his disease, he contemplated that and decided to retire but this time his aim is different.
While speaking to BBC, Carter said, “At the time when I said that, I was seriously contemplating that. I'm not saying I'm not contemplating it now, but I thought to myself 'if I have a year or two off I can get my health right'. It's difficult to say what
I'm going to do. If I can keep healthy I'll definitely keep playing. I've just struggled really. I haven't played particularly well.”
The Captain added, “My Crohn's disease has played up a lot and prevented me from practising. I've felt really tired all the time but hopefully I'm getting on top of that now - or at least trying to. Hopefully I can put this year behind me and move forward
and get back up the rankings.”
Carter is placed against compatriot Mark Davis in the first round of the tournament and is quite excited about the game.
