Croisultan to race beside Mac’s Power and High Standing at the Ayr Gold Cup
It is truly not only Pepper Lane and Mac’s Power making headlines for the Ayr Gold Cup while building upon the expectations of their connections, rather there are some others, packed with talent at the Ayr, this time. One of them being Croisultan, among
the 27 runners declared.
The 5-year-old out of Refuse To Bend and Zoudie claimed the third position at the Curragh in the thetote.com Renaissance Stakes, Group 3.
He was competing against eight other contestants with Empowering, representing A P O’Brien, managing a fourth position.
Under Liam McAteer’s training and onboard N G McCullagh, Croisultan chased the leaders and was at the fifth position halfway through the field.
He was ridden out in the second furlong, remained under pressure, but kept on with the same pace and got done with the race, qualifying for a third.
Charles O’Brien’s Bewitched won the race with jockey J Murtagh and Roger Charlton’s Definightly behind him for the second position under Steve Drowne.
Combined, they were the leading pair which Croisultan was chasing.
Even being third, according to his trainer, indicated that Croisultan is in form.
The Navan handler said, "He ran really well last time and he needs some ease in the ground. If it is drying out then we would want some more rain really. He has won a Listed race and has been placed in Group Threes and I'm happy with the draw (seven), as
he's alongside Mac's Power and High Standing, who should take him through”.
The ground conditions might not seem to be at their very best but he has been assigned gate seven to break out from which he should capitalise on as an advantage because others are not as close to the rail as he himself is.
Besides, one never knows if it rains, then Croisultan will have all the factors in his favour and would just need to put in his own efforts on the track to culminate the factors into a victory.
Liam McAteer added, "I think six furlongs is his best trip and I've got my fingers crossed, as he needs a bit of luck”.
Now only the race will reveal that how lucky Croisultan actually is.
